To show the unique charm of Qingdao as the Olympic Sailing City, and make the International Sailing Week a grand meeting of sailing world and a world-famous sailing festival brand, and quicken the step of building Qingdao into a “Sailing Capital”, on Jan. 5th ,2010, Qingdao International Sailing Week Organizing Committee released the collection notice of the cultural works to the society for International Sailing Week and the First Olympic Sailing City Mayors and International Sailing Summit Forum. The society reacts actively. By the day of Feb.15th, 669 pieces were received. It attracted the wide participation of designers and professionals from Shanghai, Beijing, Hainan and Heilongjiang provinces. The number of their works is 60% to 70% of the total, which reflects the reputation and influence of 2010 Qingdao International Sailing Week in China.

    After the collection, to make sure the result is fair and just, the Organizing Committee invited famous professionals as judges and evaluated seriously. All professionals agreed that as an important carrier of carrying forward the Olympic spirit in post-Olympic era, the symbol of Qingdao International Sailing Week and the First Olympic Sailing City Mayors and International Sailing Summit Forum should fully interpret the blue dream of building Qingdao into the Sailing Capital, show the characteristics of the city and the times, feature the spirit of sailing sport and reflect the extension and development of the Olympic spirit. After repeated selection and evaluation, 6 pieces of works were selected. Some prizes were left vacant. (See attached list) Finally, the slogan and symbols were decided. Firstly, “Carrying on Olympic Spirit, Sailing in Qingdao” will be adopted as the slogan of 2010 Qingdao International Sailing Week. It is brief and vivid with profound meanings. It can not only carry on Olympic Spirit, but also show the city objective of Qingdao’s efforts in building “Sailing Capital”, which is easily understood by people from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Secondly, the symbol of 2006 and 2007 Qingdao International Sailing Regattas will be used as the key element of 2010 Qingdao International Sailing Week and Olympic City Mayors Summit Forum. As the excellent Olympic legacy, the symbol of 2006 and 2007 Qingdao International Sailing Test Regattas has a strong visual impact. It is not only an extension of Olympic spirit, but also good for building “Sailing Capital” from a new starting point in post-Olympic era to keep on using it as the key element of Qingdao International Sailing Week, Olympic City Mayors Summit Forum and International OP Class Sailing Training Camp after proper amendment.
