The test events of “Welcome on Board Sailing Regatta” was held successfully in Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center on 25th April,2010. This regatta is hosted by Qingdao Yachting & Windsurfing Association and Qingdao International Yachting Club, and organized by Qingdao Lennon Bar.
A total of 14 teams competed in the regatta. The crews are from all walks of life both home and domestically who are interested in sailing sports.
There are two open classes in the regatta: Flying Tiger single hull and Weta Catamaran trimaran. And there were 6 teams in Flying Tiger and 6 teams in Weta.
The racing course is Wind-ward and Lee-ward course. For the convenience of audience, the racing area was settled close shore in FuShan Bay. At 14:00, with a starting signal, the first round of Flying Tiger was launched off the shore. In 7 minutes, six trimaran ships in the first round of Weta started out too. Among the competitors, there were two fathers and sons and one child, which was very striking.
After 3 rounds’ competition, Doyle Sailing team and Friendly Japanese Team respectively won the championship in Flying Tiger and Weta Class. Team Doyle is a local skilled team in Qingdao with its team members coming from Doyle Sail Maker CO., LTD. Some of them participated in the Volvo Ocean Race and Olympic Sailing Regatta. This team won the 5th place in 2009 Qingdao International Regatta. The 2 Japanese ladies of Friendly Japanese Team sail even better than men crews, and kept a leading position until the end of this game.
The fabulous games attracted hundreds of spectators whose cheering added a lot to the races’ heated atmosphere.
The success of the test event laid a solid foundation for the real games. The Organizing committee is about to organize a regatta every weekend from May to Nov. this year. And there will be a champion coming from each event.
