Different race track for two Extreme 40s at the Pirelli Regatta Red Bull Sailing Team and Alinghi went head-to-head in a different type of event from the 28th April – 1st May showcasing for the first time the Extreme 40 style of racing at the Pirelli Regatta. Set against the idyllic backdrop of Santa Margherita Ligure on Italy’s Mediterranean coast, the event, which does not count towards the Extreme Sailing Series standing, saw the two Extreme 40s go head to head over four days. Despite the light winds, Red Bull Sailing Team and Alinghi managed to sail 16 races, with Roman Hagara’s team winning 13, clearly holding the competitive edge over Alinghi helmed by Tanguy Cariou for the first 2 days before French sailing legend Alain Gautier took over for the final two in his first Extreme 40 experience.
