This year, Qingdao will host many international sailing races one after the other such as the International Extreme Sailing Series, World Cup Sailing Race, and more. Guo Chuan, the first Chinese to have completed the single-handed intermittent sailing across the globe, will lead the team and steer the giant trimaran named “China·Qingdao” to pass through the Arctic Ocean, an ocean of incessant occurrences.
The super giant trimaran, which set the world’s shortest time record in completing a single-handed intermittent sailing trip across the globe, is now under the possession of Qingdao and formally renamed “China·Qingdao”. As one most important activities of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the anti-fascist and the Chinese War of Resistance Against Japan and the sports culture exchange between China and Russia, at the end of this August or early September, Guo Chuan will steer the “China· Qingdao” to depart from Murmansk in Russia to the voyage destination -- Providensky Rayon in Russia, where the world record was set. Afterwards, it will continue the sailing and it is expected to return to the Qingdao homeport gloriously at the end of this September or early October. Once the journey is completed, the fleet led by Guo Chuan will create a new height for sailing expeditions in the Arctic Ocean and possess their own world record. Subsequently, Guo Chuan will lead the fleet with the flagship of “China·Qingdao” trimaran to re-travel the marine silk road with many sailing elites such as Song Kun, the first Chinese female to complete a sail across the globe to promote the sports, culture and tourism communication between Qingdao and the countries and cities across the line of marine silk road.
The two international top sailing races, including International Extreme Sailing Series (from April 30th to May 3rd) and World Cup Sailing Race (From September 14th to September 20th) will take place in Qingdao. The 2015 World Cup Sailing Race Qingdao Section will cover all 10 Olympic sailing games. It is expected that about 410 sailing boats (boards) and about 600 athletes will participate in this Olympic point race.
Moreover, Qingdao will continue to host its own branded international sailing race and festival activities, including the most notable 7th Qingdao International Sailing Week · Qingdao International Ocean Festival and the 6th international sailing race among urban clubs. Next March, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will take place in Qingdao for the 6th time. |
