As one of the largest sailing games around the world, in 2006, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race came to Qingdao for the first time and “Qingdao” ship joined the race as the only Chinese city’s sailing ship. Since then, the “Qingdao” sailing ship has participated in the games for the fifth consecutive season and Qingdao also became the berthing city for the race for the fifth consecutive season. This year the race will come for the 6th time.

    The 2015-2016 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race set sail in Longdon on August 30th, 2015 with a total voyage distance of 40,000 sea miles. On February 27th, the 8th race agenda (from Da Nang, Vietnam to Qingdao, China) kicked off. 12 contest fleets are expected to arrive in Qingdao one by one around March 10th.

    It is said that during the 12 years’ of cooperation with Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, Qingdao has created 8 “first” successively: the 1st Chinese city joining Clipper race, the first and only Chinese berthing city for Clipper and the only berthing city in the world for the 6th consecutive season, Guo Chuan originated from Qingdao is the first Chinese joining Clipper, the Qingdao girl Song Kun is the first Chinese person who completed the entire Clipper race as well as the first Chinese woman to complete the yacht around the world, Clipper is the first international renowned competition joined by Qingdao as well the international competition to which Qingdao output the most amateur sailors from Qingdao. Among many “1sts”, Qingdao is the 1st berthing city with exclusive cultural activities for Clipper and won the honorable title of “the most distinctive berthing city”.
