Chinese voyager Guo Chuan lost contact in Hawaii sea area, US

    Chinese professional voyager Guo Chuan, who was sailing cross Pacific Ocean independently using an extra large trimaran, lost contact with the team on the land at 15:00 of 25th October Beijing Time.

    Guo is the 1st Chinese Voyager Completed One-Man Global Voyage. At 5:24:11 of 19th October, he sailed his large trimaran on his own and starts Golden Pacific Challenge heads for Jinshan of Shanghai starting from the Golden Gate in San Francisco (the challenge is the 3rd record-setting program run by Guo Chuan Sailing Sports Management Co.,Ltd)

    The Qingdao municipality launched the emergency mechanism immediately after they heard the news. The Qingdao Olympic Sailing City Development Promotion Association, Qingdao municipal sailing & windsurfing (yacht) sports association quickly got contact with foreign affairs department, maritime bureau, sports department and land guarantee team of Guo Chuan, and expressed condolences to Guo’s family, meanwhile, it reached out to the US sailing association through the help of China sailing and windsurfing sports association for searching and saving assistance.

    According to the notice released by Guo Chuan’s support team on the land, at 11:30 of 27th October Beijing Time, they received phone call from Honolulu coastguard, which says after over 10 hours sailing, rescuers took the amphibious assault ship of the US navy have reached to trimaran of Guo, who was not in the ship. Rescuers have picked all personal belongings of Guo such as life jacket, and lowered mainsail at about 11:50, and slowed down the sailing speed.

    The US navy coastguard said automatic identification system on the ship kept on sending signal to show that the ship was about 620 miles (about 1,000 kilometers) to the northwest of Oahu Island, the main island of Hawaii. It was cloudy in the region, the wind speed is 23 miles per hour (about 37 miles per hour), the tide height is about 5 feet (about 1.5 meters), and it was pretty clear. The China consulate general in Los Angeles requires US coastguard to continue search, now the search is undergoing.

    It is known that international marine rescue institutes have already sent notices to ships sailing in the area to ask them to help search while sailing.
