Around the world in 130 days
A Chinese sailor is planning to circumnavigate the globe without stopping in November, attempting to make the journey in a world-record time aboard a 12-meter sail boat. Guo Chuan will aim to travel 21,600 nautical miles (40,003 kilometers) in 130 days while piloting the Class 40 vessel Qingdao, named after the coastal city in East China's Shandong province, according to a spokesman with the China Ocean Shipping Corp, the sponsor of the attempt. Guo will depart from Qingdao and then head eastward to Cape Horn in Chile. After sailing past the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, he plans to pass through the Strait of Malacca and finally return to Qingdao, the spokesman said. The 47-year-old sailor is being trained in Europe. |
