On March 20, the Clipper2019-20 Round the WorldYacht Race was restarted inthe Philippines, with 11 racing boatscarrying over 100 amateur sailorsembarking on the journey across theNorth Pacific to Seattle. 

This 6100-nautical-mile leg wasnamed "Sailing City Qingdao Cup" byQingdao, Clipper's longest standingpartner city. For over a month, thefleet battled with the elements in oneof the most perilous places in theworld as they competed in the NorthPacific leg. More than 150 sailorsfrom all walks of life not only defeated the cold and hurricane, but alsodefeated their fear. They experiencedan unprecedented sense of achievement and pleasure in the fast sailingagain and again. 

As the first famous internationalsailing event in which Qingdao playsa part, the Clipper Race is an important international publicity andexchange platform for Qingdao inits efforts to build a world-famoussports city and a national sports central city, deepen the building of the"sailing city" brand, and speed upthe building of a vibrant ocean cityand a livable and lovable city. Clipper has become an important carrierfor enabling Qingdao's foreign exchanges and cooperation in sports,culture, tourism, commerce, tradeand other fields. It has deepened theexchange, interaction and connectivity between Qingdao and countriesand regions along the Maritime SilkRoad, and contributed to Qingdao'sendeavor to build a bridgehead fortwo-way opening up under the Beltand Road Initiative and a pioneermodern ocean city.
