1. Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 350

Last year, Jeanneau impressed judges with the Jeanneau Yachts 55. This year, the prestigious French builder wowed again with its new 34-footer. The Sun Odyssey 350’s wraparound deck replaces the Sun Odyssey 349, creating a"larger, smoother cockpit," said judge Wendy."Trimming sails feels easier and safer—this feature alone makes sailing her a joy." Below deck, a clever lounge seat with a lift arm secures occupants while heeled. The spacious head includes a standalone shower and access to critical storage. Under sail, the boat is responsive and well-balanced in light air. Notably, the base price is just $205,000.

2. Hanse 360

The latest from Hanse packs big-boat features into 36 feet. The cockpit rivals larger models, with dedicated sailing controls, a wet bar, grill, fridge, and swim platform. Belowdecks, the two-cabin layout surprises with ample storage, an island berth, and a cavernous aft compartment."I love small boats, and this one sails beautifully—easy to handle for two," said judge Lydia. During testing, the Hanse 360 proved nimble in gusty winds.

3. Allures 59.1

This aluminum-hulled French expedition yacht is a standout. Though unconventional for U.S. markets, the Allures 59.1 made waves at the 2024 Annapolis Sailboat Show after a transatlantic voyage via Iceland and Greenland. Its composite deck optimizes weight, while the interior blends luxury with ruggedness."This boat is ready for heavy winds and long passages but handles light air gracefully," noted judge Adam.

4. J/40

The sole racer-cruiser on the list, the J/40 targets sailors craving speed (think Bermuda Race or Chicago-Mackinac) without sacrificing comfort."I’ve never spun a boat twice without touching the sails—this is pure fun," said Wendy. With a carbon mast and weight-conscious build, the J/40 balances performance and practicality."It’s as nimble as smaller boats but cruises like a dream," added judges.

5. Leopard 46

Leopard’s new 46 reimagines space for both charter and private use."The forward‘stinky captain’s cabin’ is gone, replaced with a crew-friendly midship bunk," said Zuzana. In 13.5 knots of wind, the catamaran hit 7.2 knots at a beam reach. Optional hybrid-electric propulsion delivers 8 knots under power, supported by solar and hydro regeneration.

6. Nautitech 48 Open

This performance cruiser blurs the line between speed and comfort. Its lightweight build (13 tons) and fixed keels ensure stability. The owner’s suite spans the port hull, while the starboard side offers modular layouts: two cabins, an office, or a workshop."Marc Lombard’s design nails all the essentials—stable, intuitive, and fast," said Zuzana.

7. Outremer 52

Outremer’s loyalists adore speed, and the 52 delivers. Inspired by the award-winning 55, this VPLP-designed catamaran prioritizes lightness and ergonomics."We aimed to maximize sailing time, even in light air," said Adam. During testing, it hit 6.1 knots in 10 knots of wind, with precise helm feedback. A tiller option adds to the thrill.

8. Seawind 1370

This catamaran shatters the myth that multis can’t sail upwind. With a 24,000-lb displacement and wave-piercing reverse bow, the 1370 hit 7.2 knots (78% of wind speed) on a beam reach."Even without trying, she sails beautifully," said Zuzana. The layout maximizes sailing joy and livability, blending Seawind’s iconic features.

9. Windelo 54

Windelo leads in sustainability, using basalt fiber and recycled PET cores. Twin 20kW electric motors and solar power drive the 54, which sailed at 9.15 knots in 16.3 knots of wind."Windelo pushes electric propulsion while delivering a capable sailer," said Adam. Its sleek profile and enclosed forward cockpit highlight innovation.

10. Xquisite Solar Sail 60

After an 8,000-mile voyage from South Africa to Annapolis, the Solar Sail 60 arrived looking pristine. This luxury catamaran blends opulence with practicality, featuring a retractable carbon-fiber awning and dedicated dive gear storage."Xquisite’s culture of innovation shines here," said Adam."Even the tool kit and spare parts are meticulously curated."
