To further expand the participation base of sailing, deepen the mass-participation sailing event system, and enrich the sporting connotation of the"City of Sails", the 12th Shandong Sailing & Windsurfing Open (also the 21st Qingdao Sailing & Windsurfing Open) concluded successfully on May 24, 2026, at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center. The event was hosted by the Qingdao Sports Training Center of Shandong Province, Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Sports, Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Education, and Qingdao Sports Federation, and organized by the Qingdao Sports Development Center and Qingdao Sports School. A total of 222 team leaders, coaches, and athletes from 39 schools, sailing clubs, enterprises, and institutions participated in 14 categories across 6 classes.

During the two‑day competition, teams battled through wind and waves, competing fiercely under the blue skies and over the azure waters of the Olympic Sailing Center, demonstrating superb competitive skills and high spirits. Final results: Mou Weiming and Wang Yanbo claimed first place in the Youth and Open divisions of the Radio‑controlled F5‑550 class respectively. Yang Junkai, Yu Xiaoxin, Lyu Zixuan, Shao Ziqiong, Xin Yuekai, and Ma Yingcheng won gold in the Optimist (Male), Optimist (Female), ILCA 4 Open, ILCA 6 Open, Youth Windsurfing Open, and Adult Windsurfing Open respectively. Qingdao Juyuan School and Ocean University of China won the team titles in the Optimist class and ILCA 6 class respectively. Qingdao University of Science and Technology won the J80 class Open.

As a long‑standing premier sailing event in Qingdao, this competition has now been held for 21 consecutive editions. Through years of development, it has grown into a core racing platform that covers all age groups and balances promotion with mass‑participation competitiveness. Furthermore, as a Bronze Medal Event on the 2026 Chinese Yachting Association (CYA) Youth Rankings, the event attracted many young registered sailors under the CYA, truly achieving the goals of"promoting training through competition, promoting learning through competition, and promoting popularization through competition." The success of the event also created a strong atmosphere for sailing‑into‑schools practical training, public sailing experiences, and other grassroots development efforts, further strengthening the mass foundation of sailing and expanding the influence of Qingdao's"City of Sails" brand. Going forward, Qingdao will continue to rely on such high‑quality events to improve its"event + popularization + talent cultivation" development model, pushing sailing to greater depths and contributing to the city's goal of becoming a leading sports city.
